Reaching Out in faith, hope, and love! The people of First UCC takes the Jesus command to love our neighbor as ourselves sincerely. The Mission and Outreach Team imagines, coordinates, and leads the congregation in many of these ministries. Here are the various ministries that we participate in:
Food Collection and Distribution to Belleville Food Pantry. The congregation brings items throughout the month and a member delivers them. Each February our Middle School Youth lead a Souper Bowl of Caring food collection.
The Giving Tree. Members and Friends coordinate this annual community campaign to support children and youth in our community to enjoy a blessed Christmas. We work with the school district, community churches and business, and families.
Friends of the State Street Family. An outreach and activist organization to support the homeless in the city of Madison. One Saturday a month (usually the third Saturday) we make sandwiches and supply other items for their mid afternoon meal.
Project Linus. A number of members help create blankets for children in crisis at area hospitals.
United Church of Christ Annual Campaigns. Facilitate all aspects of three of the five UCC annual campaigns: Neighbors in Need in the fall, Christmas Fund for retired clergy in need during the weeks preceding Christmas, and One Great Hour of Sharing in the spring.
Church World Service (CWS) Initiatives. Participate as able in CWS initiatives to aid those affected by global disaster, including health kits, school kits, and clean-up buckets. Two of our favorite and annual initiatives is CROP Walk in October and Blankets+ in May specifically Mother’s Day.
Global Ministries. Mystic Congregational Church is a supporter of this organization, which serves as 5he common witness of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ responsible for nurturing relationships with international partners on behalf of Disciples and the UCC.
Financial Support of Local Social Service Agencies.
